1986-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-012

Description

Documented with an additional example to show the doubling, WRPM-012 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent is cross-referenced to CONECA RPM #9 and Coppercoins 1986D-1MM-009. Obverse die markers include a small die gouge above RT in LIBERTY, a die gouge along the central lower edge of E in WE, and a die gouge in the vest left of the lower date. The reverse places diagnostics across the Memorial design: a die gouge under the right side of the second A in AMERICA, a die gouge along the left edge of the vertical crossbar of T in UNITED, and a die gouge under column 1 on the memorial base above the bushes. These markers span diverse design elements across both surfaces, giving attributors the luxury of multiple verification points. The supplementary example suggests this variety occurs frequently enough that more than one submission has been documented. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from the 1986 Denver mintage of 4,442,866,698 cents.
