Repunched mint marks from 1986 represent the tail end of an era: the Denver Mint's practice of hand-punching individual mint marks into working dies was approaching obsolescence as the Mint moved toward master dies with pre-engraved mint marks. Each hand punch carried the potential for positional error, and varieties like WRPM-008 document these human imprecisions in die preparation.
