Description
Classified as D/D Rotated CW (clockwise), RPM-012 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent exhibits a secondary mint mark impression applied at a rotated angle — the correcting D was struck with a clockwise tilt compared to the initial misplaced impression. Rotational displacement is less common than simple directional shifts and produces a distinctive diagnostic: portions of the secondary D peek out at angles differing from purely translational repunches. VarietyVista tracks this variety under UVC-1011 and DMR-013, with Stage A (EDS) unconfirmed, Stage B confirmed at MDS on both obverse and reverse, and Stage C (LDS) unconfirmed. The confirmed MDS provides the most reliable attribution window. Rotational RPMs arise when the mint employee holds the punch at a slightly different angle on the correcting strike. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from the 1986 mintage of 4,442,866,698 cents.
