1986-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-008

Description

Sharing the same D/D West displacement direction as RPM-007, RPM-008 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent originates from a different working die that received a similarly misaligned initial mint mark punch. While both varieties show the secondary impression shifted westward, they are distinguished by unique die marker profiles — the scratches, gouges, and flow lines specific to each die. Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-1007 and DMR-009, RPM-008 parallels RPM-007 in its die state documentation: Stage A (EDS) unconfirmed, Stage B (MDS) confirmed on both obverse and reverse, and Stage C (LDS) unconfirmed. Two confirmed D/D West varieties suggest a systematic tendency during that production period, perhaps reflecting a hand-punching technique that favored a westward initial placement. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from the 1986 mintage of 4,442,866,698 cents.
