1986-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

Documented as a D/D West variety, RPM-007 on the 1986-D Lincoln Memorial cent shows the secondary mint mark impression displaced westward — meaning the initial punch landed slightly too far west before the correcting strike was applied. Under magnification, collectors should observe remnants of the first D punch protruding from the western side of the primary mint mark. Cataloged with VarietyVista identifiers UVC-1006 and DMR-008, the variety spans three die stages. Stage A (EDS) is unconfirmed, while Stage B is confirmed with both obverse and reverse at mid-die state, providing the most reliable attribution window. Stage C returns to unconfirmed at late die state. The confirmed MDS classification for Stage B gives collectors a solid reference point where moderate die wear has not yet obscured the repunching. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm, from the 1986 Denver mintage of 4,442,866,698 cents.
