Atypical die clashes differ from normal die clashes in their geometry: while a standard clash occurs when obverse and reverse dies make contact without a planchet between them at their normal aligned positions, an atypical clash involves the dies making contact at an abnormal angle, rotation, or displacement. The result is transferred design elements that appear in unexpected locations on the struck coin — rotated or shifted from where a normal clash would place them.
