Description
The 1983 (S) Olympic Dollar is a dollar produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. The U.S. Mint produced 174,104 examples, making this ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 27% of production. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages.
