Description
The 1982 (P) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 292.4 million examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Sharply reduced mintages due to the recession, making both 1982-P and 1982-D relatively scarce in the series. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $12 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4108.
