Description

Sixth documented reverse cud on the 1976 Denver Mint Bicentennial Kennedy Half Dollar, this variety captures a die rim failure on one of America's most recognizable commemorative coins. The Bicentennial Half Dollar, bearing the dual date 1776-1976, featured a special reverse by Seth Huntington depicting Independence Hall. When a section of the reverse die rim broke away, the resulting cavity filled with metal to produce the characteristic raised featureless mass. The high sequence number reflects the enormous production volume of Bicentennial coinage — Denver struck vast quantities during 1975 and 1976, consuming many die pairs.
