Description
Part of the Eisenhower Dollars 1971-1978 series, the 1974 (D) Eisenhower Dollar is a dollar from the Denver Mint. With a mintage of 45.5 million, this is a less common issue β the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 61% of the year's production. The obverse features Dwight D. Eisenhower facing left and the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon with an olive branch in its talons, commemorating the Apollo 11 lunar landing. The final year of the standard Eisenhower reverse before the Bicentennial design. The 1974-D with an "Ike" mintage of 45.5 million is the most commonly circulated date. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $9 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 22.7 grams, 38.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7416.
