The ODV distinction is significant for 1971-D attribution: ODV-027 dies show Lincoln's bowtie in its original hub configuration, while ODV-028 dies display a bowtie that was manually re-engraved on the working die, providing a macro-level die identification marker visible even without examining the mintmark area.
