1969-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as RPM-003 (UVC-1856, DMR-005), this 1969-S Proof Washington quarter displays an S/S West repunching in which the secondary S impression is shifted westward relative to the final mint mark position. Three die stages have been documented. Stage A is provisionally early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B shows both obverse and reverse in mid-die state. Stage C is provisionally late die state, unconfirmed. Proof Washington quarters of this era were struck at the San Francisco Mint using specially prepared dies and mirrored planchets. The 1969-S belongs to the Washington Clad and Silver Proof Quarters series spanning 1965 to 1998, and Proof issues from this period were sold in annual sets rather than released into circulation.
