1969-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-012
Error
Description
Designated RPM-012 for the 1969-D Lincoln Memorial cent by VarietyVista with UVC-2595 and DMR-014, this variety is described as D/D East with the additional notation that the mintmark is slightly lower and farther west than RPM-002 — a positional comparison that helps collectors distinguish between varieties whose repunching directions might otherwise be confused. The D/D East designation indicates that the secondary D was punched east (to the right) of the intended position before receiving a correcting punch. Four die stages are documented (A through D), making this one of the more extensively tracked varieties for the date. Stage A is EDS but unconfirmed. Stage B shows the obverse in EMDS with the reverse in EDS. Stage C reveals die scratches running NW-SE through the date on the obverse (MDS) accompanied by NW-SE die scratches on the reverse (EMDS), the matching directional scratches on both sides suggesting they may have been introduced during a common handling or cleaning event. Stage D reaches LDS but remains unconfirmed. The four-stage documentation combined with the positional relationship to RPM-002 demonstrates the meticulous comparative approach that variety attribution services apply to distinguish between multiple RPM varieties sharing the same date and mint. Struck at the Denver Mint on a 3.11-gram, 19mm planchet of 95% copper and 5% zinc.
