1969-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Documented as RPM-005 for the 1969-D Lincoln Memorial cent by VarietyVista with UVC-925 and DMR-006, this repunched mint mark variety presents an interesting attribution challenge because its earliest confirmed stage is not Stage A but Stage B. Stage A is listed as EDS but remains unconfirmed, meaning no verified specimen in earliest die state has been photographically submitted. Stage B is the first confirmed state, showing the obverse in MDS with a distinctive curved die gouge northwest of the O in ONE on the reverse, which itself is in EDS — an asymmetry suggesting the reverse die was newer than the obverse die at this point, possibly indicating a die re-pairing. Stage C reaches LDS but also remains unconfirmed. The curved die gouge northwest of the O in ONE is the primary reverse die marker and provides a reliable identification feature independent of the mint mark repunching.
