Description

The premier repunched mint mark variety for the 1969-D Lincoln Memorial cent, RPM-001 is attributed by VarietyVista with UVC-921 and DMR-002. This variety is particularly instructive for understanding die wear progression because the secondary mint mark weakens from strong to medium to weak across three documented stages, providing a textbook demonstration of how repeated striking gradually erodes die surface detail. Stage A presents a strong secondary mintmark with the obverse in early-mid die state (EMDS), accompanied by numerous die scratches running east-west on the obverse, while the reverse is in EDS. The east-west obverse scratches in Stage A provide a reliable secondary attribution marker. Stage B shows a medium secondary mintmark in mid die state (MDS) on both sides, as continued use has begun to soften the repunched image. Stage C reveals only a weak secondary mintmark in late die state (LDS), with the die scratches worn away and the reverse in late-mid die state (LMDS).
