Description

Struck during the no-mintmark era mandated by the Coinage Act of 1965, this 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar DDR-014 presents medium spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the stars beneath those letters. What distinguishes this variety is its multi-die-pair documentation: VarietyVista recorded two separate die pairings sharing the same doubled reverse die. The first pairing, UVC-441/DMR-030, tracks Stage A at early die state (unconfirmed) and Stage B at mid-die state, where a long die crack across the upper hair serves as a prominent diagnostic. The second pairing, UVC-587/DMR-038, documents Stage C with the reverse at late-to-mid die state and a changed obverse die at early die state, and Stage D at late die state (unconfirmed). The obverse die change confirms the reverse die outlasted its first obverse companion and was paired with a fresh die. The 1967 Kennedy Half was produced in 40% silver clad — reduced from 90% in 1964 — and bore no mintmark regardless of production facility, a measure to discourage hoarding. Four die stages across two pairings make DDR-014 one of the more thoroughly tracked mid-1960s Kennedy varieties.
