1967 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003

Description

Medium spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the stars positioned beneath those letters, and the stars between the rays of the heraldic eagle characterizes DDR-003 of the 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar. The reverse heraldic eagle features stars surrounding the shield and interspersed between radiating lines, and doubling on these small elements creates visible secondary impressions among the fine design details. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-117 and DMR-012, three progressive stages are documented: Stage A shows light north-south die scratches on the reverse in early-to-mid die state with the obverse also in early-to-mid die state, Stage B at mid-die state remains unconfirmed, and Stage C awaits confirmation. This variety appears on business strikes. The 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar was struck without a mintmark at Philadelphia during the 1965 through 1967 period when mintmarks were omitted from all United States coinage. Struck in 40% silver clad composition, this Kennedy Half Dollar documents medium reverse doubling on the national inscription and the heraldic eagle's star elements during the mintmark-free era.
