Listed as FS-503 in the Cherrypickers' Guide, the 1964-D Washington Quarter RPM-001 shows a D over D repunched to the north — the final mintmark was shifted northward from the initial impression, leaving remnants of the first D visible below the definitive letter. The Fivaz-Stanton recognition makes this one of the most accessible RPM varieties for collectors, as the Cherrypickers' Guide is the standard reference for valuable die varieties across all denominations. The 1964-D holds special significance as the final Denver-minted silver Washington Quarter — the Coinage Act of 1965 would replace 90% silver with copper-nickel clad composition, ending over three decades of silver quarter production. This makes RPM-001 the last FS-listed repunched mintmark on a silver Washington Quarter from Denver, a distinction that adds historical weight to the variety's numismatic interest.
