1964-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-015
Error
Description
Cataloged by the Wexler Team, WDDR-015 of the 1964-D Roosevelt dime exhibits a counter-clockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately 10:00 on the dial, showing strong doubling on DIME and weaker displacement on ONE, the left dot of E PLURIBUS UNUM, the M of UNUM, AMERICA, and the flame tips. The pivoted rotational spread pattern, strongest at the bottom of the reverse and diminishing toward the pivot near 10:00, is characteristic of a hub that was slightly rotated between impressions. Obverse die markers include a die gouge on the R of LIBERTY slightly above left center. The reverse shows a die gouge on the left upper side of the O of ONE and a die chip on the right top of the right lower cluster of oak leaves. The 1964-D Roosevelt dime is the last 90% silver issue from the Denver Mint, struck in enormous quantities before the transition to clad coinage mandated by the Coinage Act of 1965. The strong spread on DIME serves as the primary pickup point for attributing this variety.
