Description

Verified by the Wexler Team, WDDR-013 on the 1964-D Roosevelt Silver Dime displays a very close spread toward the center on the letters around the rim, with the strongest expression on ONE DIME and AMERICA. The "very close spread towards the center" notation indicates that the secondary hub impression is displaced only slightly inward from the primary impression, requiring careful examination to detect. John Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime reverse features the torch, olive branch, and oak branch arrangement with encircling rim lettering, and the letters closest to the rim — where hub doubling effects from centripetal spread are most pronounced — show the clearest evidence of the doubled impression. Die markers for attribution include die scratches hanging south from both sides of the last T in TRUST on the obverse, and a die chip in the form of a dot on the left upper side of the torch base on the reverse. The Wexler cross-reference "1964-D 10c WDDR-013" confirms this is the thirteenth cataloged doubled die reverse for the Denver Mint issue. No additional cross-references are currently known. The 1964-D Roosevelt Dime holds special significance as the final Denver Mint silver dime — the Coinage Act of 1965 eliminated silver from dime production beginning in 1966, and the 1964-dated coins were the last struck in the 90% silver composition that had been standard since 1796.
