Description

Struck during the final year that Roosevelt Dimes were produced in 90% silver, this 1964 Denver Mint doubled die reverse exhibits a spread towards the center visible on USA and ONE DIME — a doubling direction that compresses the secondary image inward relative to the primary design. Die markers provide reliable diagnostics on both sides: the obverse carries a blunt tail on the 9 and a SSW/NNE die scratch above the left side of the U in TRUST, while the reverse shows a short die scratch running east from the top right of the D in UNITED and a separate NW/SE die scratch above the M in AMERICA. These die-specific features confirm attribution even when the doubling itself requires magnification. Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1964-D 10c WDDR-004, this variety has no other known cross-references. The Coinage Act of 1965 eliminated silver from dimes the following year, making the 1964-D the last silver dime struck for circulation at Denver.
