Description

Closing out the silver era of Roosevelt Dimes, this Wexler-attributed 1964-D WDDR-003 appears on the last year of 90% silver composition for the denomination. The doubling manifests as a spread toward the center on USA and ONE DIME, indicating the hub displacement pushed reverse elements inward. Two die markers confirm the working die: an obverse blunt tail 9, where the tail of the numeral 9 is truncated rather than tapering to a fine point, and a reverse die scratch running north-northwest from the top right of the first U in PLURIBUS. The blunt tail 9 is a distinctive characteristic aiding identification even before examining the doubling. John R. Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime was struck at the Denver Mint in 90% silver at 2.5 grams. Beginning in 1965, the denomination shifted to copper-nickel clad composition, ending the silver era that began with the series' 1946 introduction.
