Error
Description
A D/D/D South and East triple-punched mintmark from the Denver Mint, this 1964-D Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista and represents the final year of original small-mintmark placement before the 1965-67 mintmark-less period. Die markers UVC-428 / DMR-003: Stage A with a light die scratch north from left building edge and three light die scratches under L of LIBERTY at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The triple D/D/D pattern documents three distinct punch contacts. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1964-D had a massive mintage exceeding 1.78 billion pieces, generating an enormous die population.
