Description

Tracking a lighter spread than some of its sister DDR listings for the 1963 Roosevelt silver dime, DDR-019 — cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-419 with die markers reference DMR-026 — shows doubling on UNITED, ONE DIME, the E PLU portion of PLURIBUS, and the left edges of the olive leaves. The selective nature of the spread, affecting certain letters fully while only catching the opening syllable of PLURIBUS, indicates that the hub misalignment during die production displaced the secondary image along a vector that intersected different design zones at different intensities. Three die stages map this die pair's service life. Stage A at early die state presents both reverse and obverse in their freshest condition, with the sharpest detail rendering and cleanest fields. Stage B advances to mid die state on both sides, where progressive die fatigue begins to soften the finest details. Stage C at late die state remains unconfirmed. The 1963 Philadelphia Roosevelt dime carried a mintage of 123,650,000, the penultimate year of 90% silver composition before the changeover mandated by the Coinage Act of 1965. Sinnock's reverse design concentrates the olive branch to the left of the torch, and the left-edge doubling on the olive leaves creates a stepped contour along the leaf margins that is diagnostically distinct from die deterioration doubling, which tends to produce uniform thickening rather than directional separation. DDR-019 occupies a useful middle position in the 1963 dime variety census — lighter than the showpiece spreads but clearly attributable under standard magnification.
