Description

VarietyVista's DDR-010 for the 1963 Roosevelt silver dime, tracked under UVC-410 with die markers reference DMR-017, exhibits a medium spread on the reverse inscription UNITED STATES OF. The doubled image on these letters produces visible separation along the vertical strokes and serifs, detectable at moderate magnification. Three documented die stages trace this die pair's working life from fresh to fatigued. Stage A at early die state is identified by a prominent die gouge cutting across the upper portion of the O in ONE — a raised feature on the struck coin that provides an immediate authentication point — with the obverse also presenting in EDS condition. Stage B advances to mid die state on both obverse and reverse, where the initial sharpness softens and early flow lines begin to appear. Stage C at late die state remains unconfirmed, indicating that no examples showing the final deterioration characteristics of this die have been submitted for attribution. The 1963 Philadelphia Roosevelt dime had a mintage of 123,650,000 pieces struck in the traditional 90% silver composition, just one year before the Mint began its transition to copper-nickel clad coinage. John R.
