Description

Struck as a proof at Philadelphia, this 1963 Roosevelt Dime carries a doubled die reverse attributed by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as CONECA 7-R-V and Cherrypickers FS-10-1963-801 (017). The Cherrypickers listing elevates this to Fivaz-Stanton catalog status, marking it among the more significant doubled dies on the 90% silver Roosevelt Dime. Doubling manifests as spread towards center on STATES OF, with medium counterclockwise spread from a pivot at about 2:00 on UNITED, E PLU of E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DIME, the lower olive stem, the olive branch toward the top leaf, stems of olive leaves, and the olive branch stem. This rotational spread across multiple elements is visible at moderate magnification. The obverse carries a die scratch south of the second T in TRUST closer to the rim, while the reverse shows a light die scratch north-northwest from L of PLURIBUS to the lower olive turning northwest to the left lower olive leaf. As a proof, this coin was struck on polished planchets with polished dies, producing the mirror fields and frosted devices that define John R. Sinnock's design at its sharpest.
