Description

Tracked by VarietyVista on the 1962 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, DDR-015 exhibits medium spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FIVE CENTS, and MON of MONTICELLO, with the doubling decreasing from left to right across the reverse. This variety is documented across four die stages under two separate UVC pairings. Under UVC-1074 and DMR-005, Stage A shows the reverse in early die state paired with an obverse listed as DDO-003 in early die state, Stage B is mid die state unconfirmed, and Stage C shows both reverse and obverse in late die state. Under UVC-1092 and DMR-023, Stage D shows the reverse in very late die state with a changed obverse die at mid die state. For Stages A through C, the obverse is listed as DDO-003, creating a dual doubled die marriage. The obverse die change at Stage D documents a production decision where the original obverse was retired and replaced while the doubled reverse die continued in service, a scenario that generates two distinct die marriages sharing the same doubled reverse die across different obverse pairings.
