Description

Class II Distorted Hub Doubling produces a very strong spread toward the center on E PLURIBUS UNUM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and FIVE CENTS on this 1962 Jefferson Nickel, with the spread strongest on UNITED and FIVE. Cross-reference: CONECA 6-R-II-C; Wexler Variety ID: 1962 5¢ WDDR-004. Obverse die markers: a slanted die gouge from the left side of the G of GOD; three vertical die scratches above the head at approximately 11 o'clock. The CONECA 6-R-II-C designation independently confirms the doubling class and position within the CONECA attribution framework. Class II distorted hub doubling spreads design elements toward the center, and on WDDR-004 the multi-element spread across three legend components — including FIVE CENTS and UNITED STATES — makes this one of the stronger and more visually compelling doubled die reverses in the 1962 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel census.
