1961 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-026

Description

Formerly listed as WDDR-094, this 1961 Proof Jefferson Nickel WDDR-026 replaces the original WDDR-026 listing, which was delisted because it was determined to be a doubled working hub rather than a doubled die. The current variety exhibits Class II distorted hub doubling, producing close doubling visible on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FIVE CENTS, and Monticello. Class II distortion doubling creates a subtle warping effect across the die face rather than the clean directional shift of Class I or the spread of Class V. The obverse die is listed as WWHO-001, indicating it also carries a doubled working hub obverse — making this a coin with hub doubling documented on both sides. Struck as a proof at the San Francisco Mint (proof-only S-mint production from 1968 onward; pre-1968 proofs struck at Philadelphia) on the standard 75% copper, 25% nickel composition.
