Description

A particularly complex variety, RPM-013 on the 1961-D Lincoln Memorial Cent is cataloged by VarietyVista across three die marriage records — DMR-091 (UVC-1080), DMR-020 (UVC-783), and DMR-092 (UVC-1118) — with six die stages documenting an obverse die that survived through three separate reverse die pairings. This triple die marriage is notable because it indicates the obverse die remained in service long enough to outlast two reverse dies, requiring two successive replacements. Under the first pairing (DMR-091, UVC-1080), Stage A carries an unconfirmed EDS classification, while Stage B reveals the obverse at MDS and the reverse already showing advanced deterioration: a die break at the left upper base at LDS, a die crack from the E of ONE to the C of CENT, and a die chip southeast from the middle bar of the E of ONE. When the first reverse was replaced (DMR-020, UVC-783), Stage C introduces a light die crack in the hair at LDS, with the new reverse also at LDS and a diagnostic die gouge dot visible under the first S of STATES. Stage D and Stage E both show the obverse at LDS, with Stage D featuring a depression at the right eave and Stage E recording that depression's progression to a full die break. The third and final die pairing (DMR-092, UVC-1118) yields Stage F, where the obverse has reached Very Late Die State (VLDS) and a fresh MDS reverse has been installed. The six stages across three die marriages make RPM-013 one of the most extensively documented die histories in the 1961-D cent series.
