1960 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-006

Description

Presenting medium extra thickness on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, the dots, E PLU of PLURIBUS, and UNUM, this 1960 Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dime DDR-006 is cataloged by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-761 and DMR-026 across three stages. Early die state is unconfirmed. In mid-die state, a light die clash runs from the olive branch to the L of PLURIBUS, while east-west die scratches mark the obverse. By late die state, a double die clash — two separate clash events — extends from the olive to the L of PLURIBUS, while the obverse scratches have worn away through continued use. The double clash indicates the dies contacted each other without a planchet on at least two occasions during this die's service life. The 1960 Roosevelt Dime was among the last dates struck in 90% silver before the Coinage Act of 1965 ended silver in circulating dimes. Medium extra thickness doubling across most of the reverse legend makes this variety identifiable with moderate magnification.
