1960 Proof Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-023

Description

Submitted by Daniel Griffin, this WDDR-023 listing on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Proof Large Date exhibits light Class II doubling on the U in UNITED, the left Memorial base, and the letters in ONE CENT and the FG designer's initials. The involvement of both text elements and architectural features across the reverse reflects a rotational hub misalignment broad enough to influence multiple design zones simultaneously. The obverse confirms a Large Date hub, with very light die gouges visible on the upper right edges of the O and D in GOD, and a die gouge in the field to the right of the D in GOD. On the reverse, a die gouge shows to the left of the upper M of AMERICA, a tiny die scratch runs northwest from the upper right diagonal crossbar of the M in AMERICA, a faded diagonal die scratch appears in Memorial bay 4, and a die gouge sits to the right of the head on Lincoln's statue within the Memorial interior. This wealth of reverse die markers makes the variety relatively straightforward to confirm once a specimen with the appropriate light doubling is located.
