Description

Rounding out the cataloged repunched mintmark varieties for the 1960-D Large Date Lincoln Memorial cent, RPM-014 displays a triple-punched mintmark described as D/D/D north, lower serif. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-652/DMR-020, this variety spans three documented die stages. Stage A captures the triple punch at early condition, where the lower serif displacement is most clearly defined — the bottom horizontal stroke of the secondary and tertiary D impressions can be distinguished from the primary before die wear erodes these fine details. Stage B shows intermediate condition with developing die markers. By Stage C, the die reaches its later production phase. The "lower serif" notation specifies that the displacement is most apparent on the bottom terminal stroke of the D, distinguishing this variety from RPM-012's general serif involvement. As the fourteenth and final RPM cataloged by VarietyVista for the 1960-D Large Date, RPM-014 completes a remarkably deep roster of repunched mintmark varieties for a single date and subtype. The concentration of fourteen distinct RPMs on the 1960-D Large Date cent reflects the sheer volume of working dies Denver consumed during the first phase of the year's production, each one receiving its mintmark by hand in a process where positional imprecision was an inherent possibility.
