1960-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001
Error
Description
Cross-referenced as Cherrypickers FS-502, RPM-001 is the foremost repunched mintmark variety on the 1960-D Large Date Lincoln Memorial cent, showing a D/D punched west. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-635/DMR-003 and UVC-636/DMR-004, this variety progresses through seven die stages across two reverse dies. Stage A (rare in mint state): full frontal hairline at EDS, reverse is EDS. Stage B (EDS): horizontal die scratches appear on both obverse and reverse. Stage C (EMDS): frontal hairline becomes abraded; die clash shows on the reverse. Stage D (MDS): die break develops at the left upper base of the Memorial. After a reverse die change at Stage E (UVC-636/DMR-004), the obverse reaches LMDS while the new reverse is at EDS. Stage F (LDS): a light die crack appears on the forehead, reverse at MDS. Stage G (LDS): die chip develops on the right cornice and another on column 12. The seven-stage progression across two reverse pairings makes RPM-001 the most thoroughly documented repunched mintmark on the 1960-D cent. The FS-502 cross-reference in the Cherrypickers guide confirms its significance as a conditionally rare variety worth pursuing in all grades.
