1959-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-018

Description

From the inaugural year of the Lincoln Memorial reverse, this VarietyVista-documented 1959-D cent RPM-018 records both severe die breaks and a reverse die change across four stages. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-632 / DMR-027 for Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed) and Stage B with obverse at MDS, a die break above right cornice at LDS, a large die break on column #12, and a die chip under the left baseline; then UVC-3501 / DMR-037 for Stage C with obverse at LMDS and reverse die changed to MDS, and Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The large column #12 die break likely prompted the reverse die replacement between Stages B and C. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm at Denver, the 1959-D was among the first coins to bear Frank Gasparro's Memorial design that would serve for fifty years.
