1959-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-013

Description

From the inaugural year of the Lincoln Memorial reverse, this VarietyVista-documented 1959-D RPM-013 tracks mintmark attenuation alongside escalating obverse die scratching. Die markers UVC-627 / DMR-022: Stage A with a light but clear secondary mintmark at EDS and reverse at EDS; Stage B with a weak secondary mintmark and light die scratches Northeast-Southwest on obverse at MDS with reverse at MDS; Stage C with heavy die scratches North-Northeast on obverse at LDS, a light die clash through the 1 of date, and a die break on upper column #12 at LDS. The die break on Memorial column 12 documents structural failure in Gasparro's architectural detail. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm at the Denver Mint, the 1959-D was the first Denver issue to carry the new Memorial reverse design that replaced the wheat ears.
