Description

Progressing through four documented die stages under VarietyVista designation UVC-624/DMR-019, RPM-010 is a repunched mintmark variety on the 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent. Stage A presents both obverse and reverse in early die state, offering collectors the cleanest view of the repunched mintmark before production wear begins to diminish the secondary impression. Stage B advances the obverse to early-to-mid die state while the reverse develops die cracks from the E of ONE to the C of CENT and through CEN of CENT, both at early-to-mid die state. These reverse die cracks through the denomination inscription are particularly distinctive and provide an easily spotted diagnostic for collectors screening coins at arm's length before examining the mintmark under magnification. Stage C finds the obverse at mid die state with die chips on column 1 and a small die chip on the right cornice. By Stage D, the obverse reaches late die state with a small die chip appearing on column 10. The reverse die crack progression through the CENT inscription makes RPM-010 one of the more straightforward varieties to locate when searching through quantities of 1959-D cents.
