1959-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-009
Error
Description
Revealing a quadruple-punched D/D/D/D struck south, south, then north, RPM-009 is one of the most mechanically complex repunched mintmarks on the 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent. VarietyVista catalogs it across two reverse dies as UVC-622/DMR-017 and UVC-623/DMR-018, spanning eight die stages. Stage A shows no separation between mintmark punches with light die cracks on columns 11 and 12, a depression on the right cornice, and a die chip at the left base tip. Stage B develops a light die crack over V.D.B. By Stage C, separation between punches becomes visible with small die chips on column 12. Stage D adds a light die crack on column 1 and a small die break on column 12. Stage E shows a medium die break on column 12. Stage F introduces a light die crack on the forehead and a small die chip on the right roof. After the reverse die change, Stage G reveals a die chip in the lower B of LIBERTY at very late die state with two medium die cracks on the forehead. Stage H pairs the very late obverse with a die chip on column 12. The four-punch sequence makes RPM-009 particularly significant for understanding mintmark application procedures at the Denver Mint.
