Description

Spanning eight die stages across three reverse die pairings, RPM-008 is the most extensively documented repunched mintmark on the 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent. VarietyVista catalogs it as UVC-620/DMR-015, UVC-621/DMR-016, and UVC-1160/DMR-032. Stage A is an unconfirmed early die state. Stage B reveals a strong secondary mintmark with a light die crack on the shoulder, two die gouge dots on the shoulder, and a small die break on column 12. Stage C shows the secondary mintmark at medium strength with a light die crack in Lincoln's hair, a large die break on column 12, and a large die break at the right eave. After the first reverse die change, Stage D finds the secondary mintmark weakened with a small die chip on the right cornice. Stage E maintains the weak secondary mintmark while a die break appears on column 11. Following the second reverse die change, Stage F shows a very weak secondary mintmark. Stage G develops a large die break on column 12 and a small die chip on column 11. By Stage H, the obverse reaches very late die state with a second medium die break lower on column 12 and a medium die break on the right cornice, documenting the die's final production before retirement.
