1959-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005
Error
Description
Exhibiting a D/D/D punched southwest with serif involvement, RPM-005 is cataloged by VarietyVista across two reverse die pairings as UVC-613/DMR-008 and UVC-614/DMR-009, spanning five die stages on the 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent. Under the first reverse die, Stage A shows the obverse at early die state with die cracks on columns 1 and 11, a die chip on column 12, a depression at the right eave, a die chip under the right crossbar of T in CENT, and a die crack on the upper O of ONE. After the reverse die change, Stage B features a die scratch running north from the upper Y of LIBERTY at early-to-mid die state, with the new reverse at early die state. Stage C develops light die cracks running north-south in Lincoln's hair and on the forehead at mid die state. Stage D advances the obverse to late-to-mid die state with a die break at the right eave at mid die state. By Stage E, the obverse reaches late die state with a small die break outside the lower portion of column 12. The triple punching with serif displacement makes this variety particularly diagnostic, as the serif details of the D mintmark provide fine reference points for measuring the repunching offset.
