1959-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-004
Error
Description
Documented as a D/D rotated counterclockwise, RPM-004 is one of the most extensively staged repunched mintmark varieties on the 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent, with five die stages tracked across two reverse die pairings cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-611/DMR-006 and UVC-612/DMR-007. Under the first reverse die, Stage A shows the obverse at early-to-mid die state with a die crack on column 1, plus die chips on column 11, the right cornice, and the right roof. Stage B finds the obverse at mid die state with a die break at the left base tip, and die chips on column 12. Stage C advances to late-to-mid die state with a depression at the right eave. After the reverse die change (UVC-612/DMR-007), Stage D pairs the obverse at late-to-mid die state with the new reverse at mid die state, showing a die crack on column 1, a die chip on column 11, and a medium die break on column 12. By Stage E, the obverse reaches late die state with a large die break on column 12, a depression on the right cornice, and a die chip on the right cornice top. This detailed stage progression provides collectors with precise identification criteria for dating their specimens within the die's production life.
