1959-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001
Error
Description
Cross-referenced as Cherrypickers FS-501, RPM-001 is the premier repunched mintmark variety on the 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent, showing a D/D/D punched southeast then west. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-607/DMR-002 and UVC-608/DMR-003, this variety progresses through six die stages across two reverse dies. Stage A is an unconfirmed early die state. By Stage B, the secondary mintmark inside the main D is no longer visible, while die chips appear on columns 1, 9, 10, 11, and 12, plus the right cornice and roof. Stage C shows a die chip on column 2 and a medium die break on column 12. Stage D introduces a light die crack in Lincoln's hair, a large die break on column 12, a large die break on the right cornice, and a crack from the right cornice tip to the right roof tip. After a reverse die change at Stage E (UVC-608/DMR-003), the obverse shows late die state characteristics. By Stage F, the secondary mintmark reappears at very late die state. The six-stage progression across two reverse pairings makes RPM-001 one of the most thoroughly documented repunched mintmarks in the entire 1959-D cent series.
