1958-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-004

Description

Among the repunched mintmark varieties catalogued for the 1958-D Roosevelt Silver Dime, RPM-004 stands out for its counter-clockwise rotation of the secondary D impression beneath the primary. The mintmark punch was set, withdrawn, and re-applied at a slight CCW angle, leaving a displaced ghost of the earlier punch visible to the trained eye. Die markers authenticate specimens across three stages: UVC-313 and DMR-006 serve as anchor references. Stage A represents early die state, unconfirmed. By Stage B, the reverse enters MDS, the obverse is identified as ODV-006 (Straight G) also at MDS, and a small die chip appears on the nose — a useful locator for mid-state examples.
