Cataloged as UVC-1097, DMR-023, this 1958 Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent displays a repunched mintmark with the D/D rotated clockwise. Three die stages have been documented: Stage A with both obverse and reverse in Early to Mid Die State, Stage B in Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C in Late Die State (unconfirmed). The clockwise rotation of the secondary D impression indicates the die sinker's first punch was slightly rotated from the vertical axis before repositioning for the corrected strike. Struck in 95% copper, the 1958-D holds special significance as the final year of the Lincoln Wheat Cent series, which had debuted in 1909 to honor Abraham Lincoln's centennial. Denver produced over 800 million cents in 1958, the last great mintage of the wheat ears reverse before Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial design replaced it in 1959.
