Description

Struck during the final year of the Lincoln Wheat Cent series before the Memorial reverse debuted in 1959, this 1958 Denver RPM-019 carries special significance as a last-year variety. Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-606 and DMR-022, the D/D North displacement places the secondary mintmark above the primary. Stage B develops a die chip in the lower B of LIBERTY along with die clash marks in front of the digit 1 in the date — ghost impressions from a planchet-less strike where reverse elements transferred onto the obverse die. Stage C shows these clash marks worn away through continued production, establishing a clear staging criterion. The 1958 date marks the forty-ninth and final year of Victor David Brenner's iconic Wheat Ear reverse, and varieties from this terminal year hold particular appeal for collectors assembling comprehensive Wheat Cent error sets. The northward displacement creates visible secondary D serifs above the primary mintmark, and the transient clash marks visible only in Stage B provide a narrow attribution window for specimens struck during a specific production interval.
