1958-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-011

Description

Bearing a D/D Rotated CW displacement, this VarietyVista-documented 1958-D Lincoln Wheat Cent features a distinctive circular die gouge through the IN GOD WE motto. Die markers UVC-598 / DMR-014 track four stages: Stage A with strong circular die gouge through IN GOD WE at EDS and die scratches on lower left side of reverse at LDS; Stage B with weak obverse die gouge at MDS and reverse die scratches almost worn away at VLDS; Stage C with die scratches northeast on obverse at LMDS and die chip in upper left wheat grains at VLDS; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The circular gouge geometry through IN GOD WE is unusual among die surface defects and provides a highly distinctive early-state attribution marker. From the final year of the Wheat Cent series, struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm at the Denver Mint.
