Description

From the final year of the Lincoln Wheat Cent series, this 1958-D RPM-004 was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-591 / DMR-007: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with medium secondary mintmark and reverse at MDS; Stage C with weak secondary mintmark at LDS and a small die chip on the right crossbar of the T of CENT. The progressive weakening of the secondary mintmark from medium to weak documents how die wear gradually flattened the displaced D impression. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, Victor David Brenner's obverse and wheat ears reverse served from 1909 through 1958, making this Denver Mint year a terminus for Wheat Cent RPM production.
