Description

A very close spread on UNUM and AMERICA from Class II distorted hub doubling defines WDDR-011 of the 1957 Proof Jefferson Nickel, attributed by John A. Wexler and cross-referenced as Wexler 1957 WDDR-011 Proof. When the leading authority on doubled dies personally attributes a variety, it carries significant weight in the collecting community. The Class II doubling generates spread visible under magnification as a subtle shelf adjacent to the affected lettering. Obverse die markers include a short die scratch between R and U of TRUST, while the reverse carries a die gouge below ER of AMERICA, both providing confirming diagnostics.
