1957-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Exhibiting a D/D/D Northeast, West triple-punched mintmark, this VarietyVista-documented 1957-D Lincoln Wheat Cent tracks five die stages from VEDS through LDS. Die markers UVC-568 / DMR-004: Stage A with a strong secondary mintmark at VEDS, reverse at VEDS; Stage B with a light die crack on the shoulder at EDS, reverse at EDS; Stage C with medium secondary mintmark, heavy die crack from shoulder to rim, reverse at EDS; Stage D at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage E at LDS (unconfirmed). The VEDS designation for Stage A is noteworthy as it documents a specimen from the very earliest die impressions. The heavy shoulder-to-rim die crack at Stage C provides a dramatic attribution marker. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck at the Denver Mint during the Wheat Cent's penultimate year of production.
