1956 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

The reverse die that pairs with DDO-004 to create a dual-attribution proof Roosevelt Dime — both sides of this 1956 die pairing carry independently cataloged doubled die features, a scarce convergence in any series. WDDR-002 displays light spread on letters around the rim and on the E and P of E PLURIBUS UNUM, where the torch flame and lettering of John R. Sinnock's reverse design show the hub displacement. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1956 10c Pr WDDR-002, the die markers span both sides: the obverse carries a very light NNE die scratch from the ear and a die scratch running southwest below the R of TRUST, while the reverse shows a light die gouge between the O of OF and the torch flame plus a light die gouge between the E and R of AMERICA at the top. The torch — a defining element of the Roosevelt Dime reverse — provides both a design reference point and a location for die marker identification. As the second cataloged DDR for 1956 proof Roosevelt Dimes, WDDR-002's significance is amplified by its pairing with DDO-004 on the obverse, creating one of the most collectible die combinations in the proof Roosevelt Dime catalog.
